Ewing Sarcoma

Ewing sarcoma is a type of tumor that forms from a certain kind of cell in bone or soft tissue. Other names for Ewing sarcoma are peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor, Askin tumor (when it forms in the chest wall), and extraosseous Ewing sarcoma (when it forms in soft tissue). Ewing tumors more often occur in teenagers and young adults.

According to the National Cancer Institute, the incidence of Ewing sarcoma in children and adolescents younger than 20 years is approximately 3 cases per 1 million people each year. Incidence in the United States is nine times greater in white people compared with Black people.

Children who have the genetic condition Fanconi anemia may be at increased risk of Ewing sarcoma.
