Childhood Soft Tissue Sarcoma

Childhood soft tissue sarcoma is a disease in which malignant cells form in the soft tissues of the body, which include the muscles, tendons, fat, blood vessels, lymph vessels, nerves, and tissues around joints. While soft tissue sarcoma can occur anywhere in the body, within children tumors most often form in the arms, legs, chest, or abdomen.
Pediatric soft tissue sarcomas account for 6% of all childhood tumors, according to the National Cancer Institute. The most common soft tissue sarcoma in children up to age 14 is rhabdomyosarcoma, which is a tumor that forms in striated muscle tissue.
