Inaugural Day of Giving to Raise Funds for Cancer Research and Commemorate AACR’s May 7 Founding

Guest post by Mitch Stoller, Chief Philanthropic Officer, AACR Foundation

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) will host its inaugural Day of Giving on Friday, May 7, to raise critical funds for cancer research and to commemorate the day the organization was founded in 1907. On this special day, the entire AACR community, including members, friends, supporters, and staff are invited to join us in our mission to prevent and cure all cancers by donating to support lifesaving research.

With the first week of the virtual AACR Annual Meeting 2021 just behind us and the AACR Day of Giving just ahead, I cannot help but contemplate the significant role the AACR has played in advancing cancer research and giving loved ones more time together. These advances have been made possible by AACR members and the generous contributions of our donors who help support their work.

The AACR’s educational meetings and workshops provide important venues for researchers to learn, collaborate, and share their research, paving the way for collective progress against this devastating disease. The AACR not only convenes essential scientific meetings, such as the AACR Annual Meeting, but it also gives direct grants for basic, translational, clinical, and population research, targeting innovative science that has the potential to have a major impact in the fight against cancer.

There have been momentous advances in cancer research over the past 114 years. Thanks to research and funding, there are more than 16.9 million people in the United States living with, through, and beyond a cancer diagnosis. However, funding is always needed to continue this momentum, and it is evident, now more than ever, that the speed in which research is done depends significantly on how quickly research is funded. The AACR’s 48,000 members rely on timely funding to support their lifesaving work, which helps to improve or save the lives of cancer patients.

The AACR Day of Giving is an important component in helping raise more funds for cancer research because it brings the AACR community together with one goal: to help save lives through research. This day signifies the critical need for funding while also celebrating the progress that has helped millions of individuals.

Please consider donating to the AACR Day of Giving. All contributions of every amount raised on the AACR Day of Giving will help fund innovative research being done by AACR members worldwide and give hope to cancer patients and their loved ones. Thank you for joining our mission and for your generosity. We are Finding Cures Together.
