Childhood Salivary Gland Cancer

Salivary gland cancer is rare in children, accounting for about 0.5% of all childhood cancers in the United States. But it is the second most common head and neck tumor in children and adolescents after rhabdomyosarcoma. Most cases occur between the ages of 10 and 19, with a median age at diagnosis of 13.3 years. Prior treatment for another cancer with radiation or chemotherapy can be risk factors for childhood salivary gland cancer.
