Message from the WICR Chair
Dear WICR Membership,
We celebrated, with great enthusiasm, the 20th Anniversary of Women in Cancer Research during the 2019 AACR Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia. Several exciting events were held during the AACR Annual Meeting including the special anniversary celebration with several key women in cancer research including Drs. Margaret Foti, Elizabeth M. Jaffee, Elaine R. Mardis, and Elizabeth L. Travis, to name a few. We highlighted women in cancer research and celebrated with a beautiful video that captured some of those 20 years for the WICR.
I am honored to continue the work of previous WICR Chairs including Drs. Lucille L. Adams-Campbell and Judith S. Sebolt-Leopold, and to plan exciting events for the 2020 AACR Annual Meeting including the WICR-sponsored Scientific Forum, highlighting cancer research as it affects women. Our goal is to continue to promote cancer research and career advancement for women scientists from all different backgrounds and career stages. With this vision, we will continue to support scientists traveling to the AACR Annual Meeting and several other AACR scientific conferences throughout the year. In addition, we will work with the other AACR Councils to highlight programs that support women in science, foster networking and creating opportunities for sponsorship and peer-mentoring.
For the 2020 Annual Meeting, we will host several sessions that provide opportunities which will allow us to prioritize and to foster both scientific and career advancement for women in cancer. We hope that as a WICR member, you will help to continue to build the legacy of WICR and create more opportunities for women in science.
