Dear WICR Membership:

It is a great honor to serve as chair of the Women in Cancer Research (WICR) Council for the 2021-2022 term. Despite the challenges we have seen during the pandemic, I am proud to say women in science are still making strides and progressing in the field of cancer research. I want to thank Dr. Margaret Foti and the staff at AACR for continuing to keep the importance of research in the forefront.

With over 21,000 members, WICR has built a tremendous community of inspiring, accomplished women investigators who have contributed greatly to the advancement of cancer research. Our goal is to continue this support of women through our programs and activities in our institutions and through our programs within the AACR. The contributions of women researchers to the field-at-large are immeasurable and it is without a doubt that WICR has played a role in those triumphs.

I am happy to share with you the many exciting events that WICR will present to you in the coming months. In addition to this edition of the WICR Newsletter, you will also receive a winter edition which will highlight the 2022 AACR WICR Scholars, the application is open now! In April 2022, we are returning to in-person meetings with the AACR Annual Meeting 2022 taking place April 8-13 in New Orleans, Louisiana. WICR will honor the 2022 WICR awardees, you will have an opportunity to join the WICR Council for the WICR Meet and Greet and we are finalizing a professional development session just for women in our first ever WICR -sponsored Forum. The Women in Cancer Research Council has been hard at work organizing these events and I hope to see you in New Orleans!

We hope that as a WICR member, you will help to continue to build the legacy of WICR and create more opportunities for women in science. Please reach out to us at [email protected] if you would like to serve on a committee, be a mentor or have a colleague that you would like us to spotlight for their great contributions. We look forward to hearing from you!
