AACR Foundation to Partner with The Battle Cancer CrossFit Challenge to Raise Money for Lifesaving Cancer Research

PHILADELPHIA – The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Foundation today announced a fundraising partnership with The Battle Cancer CrossFit Challenge. The AACR, the world’s first and largest cancer research organization, will be the sole benefiting charity partner for Battle Cancer’s 2021 U.S. tour.

“The AACR is honored to be launching this partnership with Battle Cancer,” said Mitch Stoller, AACR Foundation chief philanthropic officer and vice president of development. “This collaboration to raise awareness and funds for cancer research is incredibly special and important for all those who have been impacted by this disease. We are very enthusiastic about this partnership and the opportunity to join this passionate and powerful functional fitness community to make an impact together.”

Founded in 2017, Battle Cancer is a United Kingdom-based organization that has raised more than $1.2 million for cancer charities around the world through CrossFit and other functional fitness events. The organization’s U.S. tour will launch later this month with a presence at the 2021 CrossFit Games, where Battle Cancer will host 50 workouts over the course of the week to highlight the AACR Foundation’s Fifty for Fifty initiative, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of the National Cancer Act.

The tour will also feature more than 20 gym takeover fundraising events across the country as well as two full-day signature fundraising events in California and Tennessee. Participants in the hour-long “takeover” events will have the opportunity to donate money to the AACR. The “signature” events will require athletes to fundraise in advance. Battle Cancer’s events are open to all interested participants.

“Battle Cancer events are designed to bring everyone together through shared experience to create a community like no other. With our events being the most inclusive in the world but still making every single person feel like a superhero, we cannot wait to bring our magic to the cause of the AACR. Partnering with the AACR Foundation allows us to focus the fitness community to a common goal of ensuring that cancer is not forgotten, to ensure those affected by cancer are not alone, and, importantly, that work continues to stop the devastating effect of cancer,” said Scott Britton, founder and director of Battle Cancer. “Through our partnership with CrossFit LLC, our global events, and most importantly our community of all abilities in the fitness community, we couldn’t be more proud and driven to provide a vehicle for the AACR to showcase the incredible work of the organization and bring fundraising and awareness all year round.”

The money raised during Battle Cancer’s U.S. tour will benefit the AACR and its mission to prevent and cure all cancers through research, education, communication, collaboration, science policy, advocacy, and grant giving for cancer research. Eighty-eight cents of every dollar donated to the AACR goes directly to lifesaving cancer research.

Details of Battle Cancer’s U.S. tour will be posted on its website in the coming weeks. Interested individuals can sign up for email updates to be notified as events are confirmed.
