Submission Deadline Extended to Dec. 19: AACR June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism

Cash Prize of $5,000 in Each of the Six Categories

PHILADELPHIA – The submission deadline for the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 2019 AACR June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism has been extended to Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2018.

The AACR Biedler Prize was established to showcase outstanding examples of cancer journalism, and to recognize individual professional journalists who have produced accurate, informative, and compelling stories with a $5,000 unrestricted cash prize.

The AACR Biedler Prize is open to print, broadcast, and online professional journalists whose stories appear in media that target a lay public audience. It consists of six submission categories: large newspaper (circulation over 100,000); small newspaper (circulation under 100,000); magazine; online/multimedia; television; and radio.

The judging panel is chaired by FORTUNE editor and cancer survivor Clifton Leaf and comprises esteemed journalists and communications professors, cancer researchers, and patient advocates. Past panels have included media professionals who have worked for NBC News, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Houston Chronicle, and PBS, among others.

The 2019 AACR Biedler Prize will be presented during the Opening Ceremony on Sunday, March 31 at the AACR Annual Meeting, which draws more than 22,000 attendees.

Journalists are invited to submit their best work on cancer on the AACR website, or email [email protected] for alternate submission options. For more information on the 2019 AACR June L. Biedler Prize for Cancer Journalism, visit www.aacr.org/BiedlerPrize.
