AACR on Campus Peru (Lima and Arequipa)

The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), in partnership with the Sociedad Peruana de Oncología Médica (SPOM), is pleased to present AACR on Campus Peru (Lima and Arequipa). The program will take place May 17-18, 2027, at the Colegio Médico del Perú (CMP) in Lima, Peru, and May 20-21, 2027, at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustín de Arequipa (UNSA) in Arequipa, Peru.

AACR on Campus Peru brings together early-career cancer researchers, physician-scientists, clinicians, and trainees from Peru and across Latin America for an intensive educational and networking experience. Featuring 1.5-day programs at both locations, the meeting will explore scientific and clinical challenges relevant to Peru and the broader region, while highlighting opportunities for innovation, collaboration, and capacity building in cancer research. International experts will address topics such as:

  • Cancer data systems in Peru and Latin America to improve cancer control: The role of population-based and hospital-based cancer registries
  • Infection-associated solid cancers in Latin America: Implications for risk, tumor biology, and health disparities
  • Cancer and genetic ancestry in Latin America: Implications in tumor biology, risk stratification, treatment health disparities
  • Precision oncology in resource-limited settings: Translating molecular advances into cancer care in Latin America.

Participants will also engage in professional development workshops designed to support career advancement and research success, including Scholarly Publishing in Cancer Research, Successful Grantsmanship and Grants Administration, and a Poster Competition.

Two Best Poster Prize winners, one from each program site, will receive USD $2,500 to support attendance at the AACR Annual Meeting 2028.

By combining cutting-edge scientific discussions with practical career development training, AACR on Campus Peru aims to foster the next generation of cancer leaders and strengthen the cancer research ecosystem throughout Peru and Latin America.
