Thousands of Cancer Researchers to Gather in San Diego for Scientific Conference, April 5-10

SAN DIEGO – The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is hosting the AACR Annual Meeting 2024 at the San Diego Convention Center Friday, April 5 through Wednesday, April 10. This eminent scientific conference will bring more than 20,000 cancer researchers from around the world to San Diego to discuss the latest advances in cancer prevention, detection, and treatment.

The meeting will have an estimated $87million economic impact on the San Diego region.  

MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

2024 AACR Runners for Research 5K Run/Walk – B-roll footage, photos, and interviews are available 
When: Saturday, April 6, 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. PT

  • The 2024 AACR Runners for Research 5K will bring together more than 570 runners who have raised over $137,000 for lifesaving cancer research.
  • B-roll footage, photos, and interviews with AACR Chief Philanthropic Officer Mitch Stoller will be available. 

Special Program for High School Students – Interviews with speakers are available 
When: Tuesday, April 9, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. PT

Cancer Research Night with the San Diego Padres – Interviews with speakers are available 
When: Tuesday, April 9, 5:30 p.m. PT

  • A portion of the proceeds from all tickets purchased for Tuesday’s Padres game against the Chicago Cubs will be donated to the AACR.
  • Media are invited to attend a reception before the game that will feature the following speakers discussing the importance and impact of cancer research:
    • Mark Loretta, former MLB player, special assistant to the CEO, San Diego Padres, and cancer survivor;
    • Philip D. Greenberg, MD, FAACR, AACR Past President (2023-2024); Rona Jaffe Foundation Endowed Chair and professor and head of the Program in Immunology, Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center; and
    • Geoffrey Wahl, PhD, FAACR, AACR Past President (2006-2007); professor, Gene Expression Laboratory, Salk Institute.

The reception will take place at the Western Metal Supply Co. Building Rooftop at Petco Park.
