​Dr. Abate-Shen is the Michael and Stella Chernow Professor of Urological Oncology; professor in the Departments of Urology, Medicine, Pathology, and Systems Biology; and member of the Institute of Cancer Genetics at Columbia University Medical Center. She also serves as a program leader and associate director for Translational Research at the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center at Columbia University. Dr. Abate-Shen is the recipient of numerous awards, including an American Cancer Society Research Professorship. Among her leadership roles, she has served on the National Cancer Institute’s Board of Scientific Counselors. Dr. Abate-Shen is a recognized authority on the molecular basis of prostate and bladder cancers, and particularly on the integration of experimental data from genetically engineered mouse models to human cancer. Her recent research has focused on elucidating novel mechanisms of drug resistance and the relationship of aberrant cellular differentiation to cancer pathogenesis.
