Brian A. Van Tine, MD. PhD, director of the sarcoma program at the Siteman Cancer Center of Washington University at St. Lous, died November 8, 2025. He was 53 years old.

A native of Phoenix, Van Tine earned dual bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and biochemistry at the University of Arizona in 1995. He received a doctoral degree in pathology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in 2003 and a medical degree from UAB in 2005.

He completed internship and residency at Washington University and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. From 2007 to 2011, he was a fellow in hematology and oncology at WashU. He joined the Washington University faculty in 2011 and was named director of the WashU Medicine sarcoma program. He became a full professor of medicine and pediatrics in 2021 and was appointed director of developmental therapeutics for phase 1 clinical trials at Siteman.

He joined the AACR in 2011 and served on the editorial board of Clinical Cancer Research, among other journals. He was vice chair of the NRG sarcoma subcommittee and also served as a member of the medical advisory board of the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
