Membership Categories

Active Membership

Active membership is open to investigators worldwide. Individuals who have conducted two years of research resulting in peer-reviewed publications relevant to cancer and cancer-related biomedical science, or who have made substantial contributions to cancer research in an administrative or educational capacity, are eligible. Evidence of patents relevant to cancer research may be provided as qualifications for membership in lieu of peer-reviewed publications.

Associate Membership

Associate membership is open to graduate students, medical students and residents, and clinical and postdoctoral fellows who are enrolled in educational or training programs that could lead to careers in cancer research. Scientists in training who already have a substantial record of publications may wish to apply for active membership, which confers full benefits of membership. Forms for membership are available on our website and from the AACR office.

Affiliate Membership

Affiliate membership is open to qualified individuals who are health professionals working in support of cancer and biomedical research and educators or other professionals who are interested in and/or make substantial contributions to the cancer field. As an affiliate member you have the benefit of subscribing to AACR publications at reduced member rates.

Survivors and advocates who are members of organizations whose mission includes the advancement of cancer research are encouraged to join as affiliate members.

Emeritus Membership

Emeritus membership is open to active members who have attained the age of 70 years and members who are disabled. In case of the disability of an active member or under circumstances deemed appropriate by the board of directors, the requirement of an age of 70 years for transfer to emeritus status may be waived.

Honorary Membership

Honorary membership is open to distinguished individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of cancer research either through outstanding personal scientific activity or through exceptional leadership in cancer research. Annual member dues are not required.

Student Membership

Student membership is open to persons who have manifested an interest in cancer and related biomedical science and who are enrolled in a program leading to a high school diploma or bachelor’s degree. Annual member dues are not required.

Sustaining Membership

Sustaining membership is open to organizations in recognition of annual payment of dues and other substantial contributions in support of the mission and activities of the association. Annual dues are determined by the sustaining member level.

Applications for membership may be submitted at any time during the year. You may either submit the official AACR membership application online or download the application and submit it to the AACR office with the required documents:
