Masaaki Tamura, DVM, PhD, long-time Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine professor, and an emeritus member of the AACR, died January 16, 2025. He was 75. 

Tamura earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Kitasato University in 1973 and a Ph.D. in biochemistry and nutrition from Azabu Veterinary College in 1980. He began his academic career at Tokyo University Medical School before moving to Vanderbilt University in 1982, where he held research and lab management roles until 2005. He then joined Kansas State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, where he was promoted to full Professor in 2018. 

At Kansas State, Tamura led an active research lab and taught until his recent illness. His work over three decades focused on cancer research, including gene therapy, stem cell applications, immunotherapies, and natural product discovery. He also contributed to understanding the angiotensin II receptor in heart disease and cancer. 

He had been a member of the AACR since 2002 and was a member of the Cancer Immunology (CIMM), Cancer Prevention (CPWG) and Tumor Microenvironment (TME) scientific working groups.
