Heiko van der Kuip, PhD, an AACR member who studied how tumor cells respond to chemotherapy, died November 25, 2017, at age 51.
van der Kuip conducted his dissertation at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz, Germany, and earned his PhD from the University of Hohenheim in Stuttgart, Germany. He was a senior scientist and a scientific board member at the Dr. Margarete Fischer-Bosch Institute of Clinical Pharmacology in Stuttgart, and was a member of the scientific board of the Robert Bosch Hospital.
His research focused on the mechanisms underlying the hypersensitivity of tumor cells to chemotherapy and the establishment of primary tumor cell models.
van der Kuip joined the AACR in 2005 as an Associate member, and transferred to Active membership in 2010. He attended numerous AACR Annual Meetings, most recently in 2017.
