Charles B. Kasper, PhD, a retired cell biologist at University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a longtime member of the AACR, died September 5, 2023, at the age of 88.
Born in Joliet, Illinois, Kasper received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Illinois-Chicago in 1958 and his doctorate in chemistry from the UW-Madison in 1962. He joined the faculty at the University of California Los Angeles and became an assistant professor before moving back to UW-Madison to join the McArdle Laboratory for Cancer Research in 1965.
He concentrated on basic research involving drug-metabolizing enzymes and the roles they play in mammalian health. He also taught courses in oncology at the graduate level and the UW School of Medicine and Public Health.
He joined the AACR in 1972.
