Lee Roy Morgan, Jr., MD, PhD, a retired clinical pharmacologist and oncologist and an AACR member for 58 years, died October 22, 2023. He was 86 years old.
A native and lifelong resident of New Orleans, Morgan received his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in chemistry from Tulane University in 1958, 1959, and 1960, respectively. He completed post-doctoral studies in chemistry at Imperial College London in 1961.
From 1961 to 1986, he taught at the LSU School of Medicine, retiring as professor of pharmacology and medicine and chairman of the Department of Pharmacology. While a member of the faculty, Morgan also obtained a medical degree from LSU in 1971 and had a private practice in oncology from 1973 through 2005. At the time of his death, he was chief executive officer of a privately owned research and development company.
Morgan was recognized as a 50-year member of the AACR at the AACR Annual Meeting 2015. He was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science in 2009.
