Peter G. Scholefield, DSc, PhD, a longtime biochemistry professor and cancer researcher in Canada and a member of the AACR since 1964, died September 1, 2023, at the age of 98.
Born in Newport, Wales, in the United Kingdom, Scholefield received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wales in 1944, a master’s degree from the same university in 1946, and a doctorate from McGill University in Montreal in 1949. He earned a doctoral degree in science from Wales in 1960.
He joined the National Cancer Institute of Canada as a senior research fellow in 1949. From 1954 to 1957, he was a lecturer in biochemistry at McGill, becoming a full professor and director of the McGill University Cancer Research Unit in 1965. He was a professor for almost 20 years and served at the NCIC until 1992. He continued to work in cancer research until his retirement in 1999 at age 74.
